Like his older sisters and brother, Dan, after leaving school at fourteen, also joined the workforce on the family farm. He took his turn at all the work and daily chores that had to be done.
When he decided to branch out on his own his father transferred to him the remainder of the original property, "Woodland Park", plus thirty-five acres of "Musk Vale", to make up one hundred and eleven acres. Here he grazed sheep and cattle, cropped potatoes, oats, flax and peas; batching for three years in the house in which Grandfather Richard Gregg has once lived.
After his marriage to Christina Hamblin he purchased further properties and renovated the house, but after a few years tragedy struck
When it was burnt to the ground. Following many years living in a converted shed, he and his family were able to move into a new home which was built on the original site.
Dan is involved in public affairs and is a Councillor in the Shire of Korumburra. He took a keen interest in the Poowong Centenary Celebrations and was president of a hard working committee.
Dan and Chris have four sons, Neil, Ken, Ian and Graeme and one daughter, Heather.
