NotesJohn Mayo Borthwick Jnr died in action in WWII in England in a plane crash.
He was officially (birth certificate) the son of Francis Mayo Borthwick and his wife Minnie M Jardine. It is clear from the Will of J M Borthwick Snr that he was J M Borthwick Jnr's father. In the Will he is named as the testator's son and sole beneficiary save for a life interest for Florence Borthwick, the testator's sister. This was confirmed by relatives after the death of Minnie M Borthwick ("Madge") (daughter of Francis and his wife) in Nov 1994. Madge used to emphasise that J M B Snr (her uncle) cared for the family after Francis had left his family but on visits was only interested in J M B Jnr. J M B Snr gave "Kilburnie" a valuable farming property near Wariald to J M B Jnr.
J M B Jnr was an excellent horseman and rode horses in Picnic Race Meetings.

INDEX
NotesOliver Henry POTTS met Elizabeth CARR when his father, John Henry POTTS, was Head Teacher at Frankston School. He was a heavy drinker, although only a young man. However, such was the influence of Elizabeth CARR, that he "signed the pledge of total abstinence" and never at any time throughout his long life did he again touch alcoholic beverages. Oliver Henry POTTS and Elizabeth CARR were married on Tuesday, November 13, 1883, at the Wesleyan Chape, Frankston, by th Rev. David Jonathon Flockart. They started life on a dairy farm at Skye,. Tragedy struck them when they lost most of their herd through some desease. There was not any State compensation in those days, so they had to pack up and leave. TREK TO HEALESVILLE Land at Badger Creek, three miles south of Healesville, was at the time being thrown open for selection. This attracted the young couple, who at the time had a family of six children. Oliver was 32 years of age and Elizabeth 36 years. The new block of land was untouched by the hand of man, and thickly covered with a lovely stand of timber and scrub. It was given the name of "Glenviolet," and was thereafter known by that name. So thick was the forest of trees and scrub that a path had to be cut to get the wagon and buggy on to the property. A further area was cleared and tents erected. Cooking was done over an open fire, with a camp oven, plus cast iron saucepans and kettles.
