Notes
After leaving school, at the age of fourteen years, Katie worked on the family farm (champion pea picker) for ten years before entering the nursing profession at the Gippsland Hospital, Sale, in 1932.
Following three years of training, with a salary of 1 Of- in the first year, 1216 for the second year and 15/- for the third year ... plus board and lodgings, she qualified for a certificate of General Nursing and remained on the staff, in charge of the Private and Intermediate Wards for two years. In 193 8 Katie obtained a certificate in Midwifery, after nine months of training at the Royal Women's Hospital, CarIton, at which time the trainee award salary was 5/- per week ... plus board and lodgings.
Katie was then invited to rejoin the nursing staff of the Gippsland Base Hospital, where she enjoyed her profession and remained until her marriage with Carl Frederick Wilson of Sale in 1943.
Carl purchased a grazing property at Willung, where they still reside, and Katie's interests include gardening, native flora, painting and handicrafts (at which she excells).
They have one son, lan.
