Like all his brothers and sisters, Angus also did his bit on the farm, after leaving school. At eighteen he joined the Royal Australian Air Force and fought in the Second World War. In the Ground Staff, he was among many who were keen to fly, but after completing a course on Catalinas they found there were not enough of these "flying boats" available for all the men who had qualified to fly them.
Soon heavier bombers were needed and the American Air Force was requested to supply some Liberators. At first the Americans thought that the Australians were not capable of flying their four-engined bombers, but they were soon to be shown otherwise, and Angus was one of the first crew members to fly with the Americans in their Liberators ... in New Guinea, operating mainly from Dobadura and Nadzab. At times they bombed Wewak Point, which was reputed to be the most fortified place, for its size, in the world.
Angus came home a Sergeant, returned to farming and married Joan Stroud.
The remainder of "Musk Vale" became his when his father transferred one hundred acres of it to him and Angus purchased the remaining one hundred acres. It is still known as "Musk Vale".
For a short time he milked cows, then changed to grazing sheep and cattle, then only cattle. He cropped mainly potatoes and has become an expert in this field.
His interests include tennis, badminton and lately he has been most successful in winning many trophies for golf. Interested in district projects, he was President of the Back-to Poowong North School Committee and has been Secretary of the Recreation Committee since its inception in 1960.
They have one son, Alan and three daughters, Valma, Judy and Laurie.
