Our BOOKS & RESOURCES focus on the season of Lent. The season commences with the distinctive distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday along with the words ‘Remember you are dust and to dust you shall return’ or else ‘Turn away from sin and believe in the Good News’.
Those words, specifically the latter, remind me of our life with God on earth and life with God in heaven. We are citizens of both worlds - happy and fulfilled not only in working for success but also happy and fulfilled when ‘wrongs’ and made right and when love and goodness prevail.
In us there is a hunger for acknowledgement and also for God. The times when we feel disturbed by the injustices and suffering in the world can very well reflect our hunger for God and for goodness and love which we believe God always brings. We acknowledge goodness in our being and it is indeed fulfilling. One author puts it nicely: ‘I asked God for all things that I may enjoy life, instead God continually gives me life that I may enjoy all things’.
Turn away from sin and believe in the Good News. The words invite us to live to the full our life on earth and also in heaven.
